Now he tells us.
Three and a half years after the fact, Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England, told the Covid Inquiry this week that the decision to mandate Covid jabs was “100 per cent a political one” and he was “sceptical“ of it.
Incredibly, Whitty said: “There’s a range of opinions and for what it’s worth – but I don’t think it’s worth very much – I’m rather more sceptical than some but that’s a view as a citizen.”
Reminder: we lost 40,000 experienced care workers to this.
Those people lost their livelihoods, and the already creaking care sector suffered a massive blow it could ill-afford.
100,000 NHS workers were next on the chopping block.
Yet Whitty kept schtum as he watched it all happen…
Whitty seems to have forgotten that, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO), he was the most senior adviser to Government on matters relating to health.
A public servant, paid for by the taxpayer, acting on behalf of the public – in theory, at least. Does Whitty not recall how he was paraded across our TV screens for years on end as the official voice of “The Science?”™
To make out now that he was just another average bloke with opinions, but he thought he’d keep them to himself as his view wasn’t “worth very much,” is to brazenly insult everyone’s intelligence.
As Dr Tony Hinton rightly asks: “Why didn’t Whitty resign over mandatory jabs? Why didn’t he speak out? Does not the General Medical Council insist doctors follow good medical practice and the duty of candour?”
These admissions illustrate the danger we are all in when weak and unprincipled bureaucrats are given too much influence over our lives.
(We believe a strong public is the only real counterweight to this so please join us as member to help us push back as strongly as we can.)
During the Covid saga Whitty & co participated in the violation of bodily autonomy and informed consent – the principles on which Western healthcare and NHS medical ethics rest.
And yet Whitty who, along with Jenny Harries and others received a knighthood in 2022, is still in post. There has been no discussion of these issues in Parliament and the Covid Inquiry is only now beginning to address some of them – reluctantly at that.
The entire public health establishment who let us down so badly are still failing us, the public.
That establishment includes the NHS and the Opposition which now forms the present government.
It includes almost every other British institution.
It includes most of the media.
Has the public health establishment at least learned something from the last few years?
Judging by recent actions, it seems not.
The UK Health Security Agency has ordered five million bird flu jabs for humans “just in case”. Professor Carl Heneghan of Oxford University pointed out on GB News that with no transparency about how such decisions are made, it’s likely that “we’re spending hundreds of millions here, and it’s going to waste.”
The UK is at the heart of a growing vaccine industry. The RNA Centre of Excellence in Darlington will have the capability to produce 100 million vaccines a year in an emergency.
Whatever your view, that is big business, and it creates big incentives.
Also at the Covid Inquiry, former health minister Matt Hancock claimed Covid had demonstrated a “vital need” for a new onshore facility to meet the vast “geopolitical demand” for vaccines he was confident there would be Next Time.
The working assumption must be that the public health establishment would do it all over again. We cannot trust them to look after our interests – we, the people, must look out for ourselves.
We can do this in various ways. Firstly, we need to be aware of the ideologies, agendas and interests at play so that we can decide how best to respond. That’s why at Together we try to keep supporters informed about developments the legacy media either fails to cover, or covers with an establishment bias.
Secondly, we can share this information with others so that the issues with the public health establishment become widely known. That way, if there is a Next Time, the faux scientific narrative that took so many people by surprise just won’t gain traction. So please share this email with those you think could use it!
Thirdly, we can remind our politicians, health providers and institutions of the principles that underlie real healthcare – a genuine concern for the public, a respect for bodily autonomy, and the position that informed consent is sacrosanct. We can make it quite clear ahead of time that we won’t be accepting the kind of overreach that went on in Covid.
The good news is we don’t have to do this alone. Together was founded as a grassroots organisation in the fight against the illiberal imposing of vaccine passports. We campaigned vigorously against the mandate on care workers, and its proposed extension to healthcare workers. More recently, when the government of Northern Ireland floated the idea of mandatory vaccination for new Public Health legislation, we responded swiftly and were part of a big pushback.
The “passports” and mandates of 2021-22 were fought off. But the struggle goes on, and we need support to continue with the pushback until one day, the battle is won.
